Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1

Created for the independent, homeschooling student, Teaching Textbooks has helped thousands of high schoolers gain a firm foundation in upper-level math without constant parental or teacher involvement.

Extraordinarily clear illustrations, examples, and graphs have a non-threatening, hand-drawn look, and engaging real life questions to make learning algebra practical and applicable. Textbook examples are clear while the audiovisual support includes lecture, practice and solution CDs for every chapter, homework, and test problem. The review method structure helps students build problem-solving skills as they practice core concepts and rote techniques. Learn More

Teaching Textbooks’ new Algebra 1 Version 2.0 edition now includes automated grading! Students watch the lesson on the computer, work a problem in the consumable workbook, and type their answer into the computer; the computer will then grade the problem. If students choose to view the solution, they can see a step-by-step audiovisual solution.

Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 2.0 includes the following new features:

  • Automated grading
  • A digital grade book that can manage multiple student accounts and be easily edited by a parent.
  • Over a dozen more lessons and hundreds of new problems and solutions
  • Interactive lectures
  • Hints and second chance options for many problems
  • Animated buddies to cheer the student on
  • Reference numbers for each problem so students and parents can see where a problem was first introduced Learn More

Math-U-See Algebra 1

Graphing, simultaneous equations, exponents, polynomials, unit multipliers, and more.

The Honors pages provided with our upper-level courses (Pre-Algebra through Calculus) are intended to extend the concepts presented in the lessons, much as the Application and Enrichment pages in the Greek Letter levels, and are not designed to meet the requirements of a high school “Honors”-level course. These additional activities serve to round out a student’s understanding of the main concepts already being taught. Even if a student completes all of these pages, the designation “Honors” cannot be added to the course description on the student’s transcript. Learn More

Needs Student Workbook, Teacher Manual & Instructional DVD, Integer Block Set & Decimal Inserts.

Notes:  Math-U-See is great for hands on learners.  It can be quite repetitive and doesn’t contain many reviews.  Placement Test

Understanding Geometry

The successful completion of Understanding Geometry will virtually guarantee a student’s success in high school geometry. Although the geometric concepts of perimeter, area, and volume are taught piecemeal from elementary school through middle school, too many students enter high school without the skills and knowledge to succeed in high school geometry. Unfortunately, middle school students get a very little education on the properties of parallelograms and the tools needed to succeed at doing geometric proofs. A result is a high number of students who struggle with high school geometry and standardized testing. Geometry is a fundamental subject in high school standardized testing.

This book teaches students an understanding of the reasoning behind the properties taught in geometry–instead of merely asking them to memorize them. Students are also taught the basics of geometric proofs and coordinate geometry in a way middle school students can understand. A glossary of terms that every student must master is included. This book can be used as a classroom textbook in Grades 7, 8, or 9 (usually over a two-year period). In many high schools, this book can also be used as a one-year high school geometry course. This book follows the National Math Standards in mathematics but it goes further. Learn More

NOTE:  It is our recommendation that students complete Understanding Algebra I before attempting Understanding Geometry Learn More
