Sixth Grade Math
Have you ever stepped through a wardrobe into a magical land? Have you ever had tea with a faun or eaten dinner with a beaver? Have you helped a lion defeat a witch? Wait a second, what does Narnia have to do with math!? Everything! Math is everywhere. Join us this semester as we read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and discover a hidden world of fractions, ratios, rates, and negative numbers while we’re there!
The whole world is filled with magical, invisible math. In the Middle School math program we work with students to solidify foundational skills that will serve them in high school, college and most importantly – in real life. Math is taught in context, so it is relevant and meaningful. We challenge students to move beyond the common idea that only certain types of people can do math by giving them strategies to approach skill-based learning experiences. Learn More
In the Primer level, your child will learn not only how to write numerals but also addition and subtraction, basic counting, skip counting, geometric shapes, telling time, and they will be introduced to the manipulative block system. It’s a gentle introduction to “doing Math.” Learn more

The students are provided with the necessary learning experiences beginning with the concrete and pictorial stages, followed by the abstract stage to enable them to learn mathematics meaningfully. This approach encourages active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem-solving. This helps develop the foundation students will need for more advanced mathematics. Practice exercises are designed to provide the students with further practice after they have done the relevant workbook exercises. Review exercises are provided for cumulative reviews of concepts and skills. All the practice exercises and review exercises are optional exercises. Learn More

Mathematical Reasoning™ Level G is a complete curriculum for the sixth-grade level that teaches the mathematical concepts and skills students are expected to know. This book also introduces several skills and concepts normally taught in the next grade level. Mathematical Reasoning™ books help students devise strategies to solve a wide variety of math problems. These highly effective activities use step-by-step, discussion-based problem solving and computation to build the math reasoning skills necessary for success in higher-level math and math assessments. This book is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Activities and units spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts but also challenging them to continue building their math skills. Learn More

Saxon Math Homeschool 7/6 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes the incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts.
Building upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 6/7, the Saxon 76 textbook introduces functions and coordinates graphing, integers, exponential expressions, and prime factorization. Students will specifically learn about the order of operations, number lines, decimal place value, how to find the percent of a number, how to round decimal numbers, attributes of geometric solids, and more.
Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises); introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which includes 25-30 old and new problems. In-depth “Investigations” are provided every 10 lessons and have their own set of questions.
The Tests and Worksheets book provides supplemental “facts practice” tests for each lesson, as well as 23 cumulative tests that cover every 5-10 lessons. The included “activity sheets” are designed to be used with the activities given in the student worktext. Five optional, reproducible, recording forms are also included.
The Solutions Manual provides answers for all problems in the lesson (including warm-up, lesson practice, and mixed practice exercises), as well as solutions for the supplemental practice found in the back of the student text. It also includes answers for the facts practice tests, activity sheets, and tests in the separate tests & worksheets book. Learn More
Needs: Student Text, Solutions Manual, Tests & Worksheets.
Notes: Saxon Math has a very dry presentation. The pages are devoid of color, but it has lots of reviews and is a well-respected curriculum. Placement Test
Designed specifically for homeschoolers, Teaching Textbooks 6 is designed for independent students, with the “teacher” and “textbook” elements combined.
