A HUGE shout out to this inspired Distance Education program! It is a beautiful marriage between homeschool and charter school. This inspired program has made it possible for us to take the huge leap of faith to homeschool this year! We are extremely grateful for all the support and amazing resources Kim Goates and her incredible team provide! Kim knows parents know best what their children need to learn, and she provides the support and resources we need to succeed! They also facilitate fabulous field trips! We are truly grateful for this inspired program! It is fluid and shifts based on the needs of our children and the families involved. We are immensely blessed and so grateful to be a part of this amazing program!his program is exactly what I had been looking for in my children’s schooling experience. I love the balance it gives me and my family as we get to learn so much together both at home and on the wonderful family field trips set up through the Distance Program. This program also allows me to provide one on one time so my kids can learn at their own speed and discover things that interest them. I love the small weekly classrooms with hands-on learning. It is wonderful to be able to teach using the abundance of resources and know my kids are learning everything they need to learn.
This past year has been a great experience. The distance program has provided the perfect balance for our family. My children have learned some amazing and interesting things with their teachers at school, while still allowing me to guide their education and be with them a good portion of the week. The program has also planned many great field trips that I have brought all 6 of my children to for a reasonable price and very little planning on my part. Thank you, distance program!
When we found out we were moving Utah last year I was really nervous about feeling isolated with homeschooling. We were living in Texas where we had a large homeschool support group that we loved so much didn’t want to move away. Before we moved or knew exactly where were going to live I started researching homeschool Facebook groups in Utah and was hoping to find people we could become friends with and do actives with. Never did I imagine we would have found something as incredible as the Distance Program. When I found the program I told my husband I sure hope we get to move to the northern Utah County area because I had signed our kids up for a homeschool program. The Distance program has far exceeded all of my expectations (all of our Texas homeschool friends are now jealous). The staff is amazing and have worked so well with my kids. I recommend the program to everyone I talk to. My kids love going to Epic Day each week and have learned so much!
The Distance Program has been a great experience for our family. I have been slowly transitioning to homeschooling my kids full time. It was nice to have 3 days with them home full time and two days with them in class. I loved the ability to go into the resource library and change curriculum when it wasn’t working for us and all the extras that are there too. We moved with 2 months left in the school year. We loved this program so much that we chose to drive all the way from Mount Pleasant to finish off the school year. My boys also loved going to the space center once a month.
My daughter was just showing her younger siblings the lapbooks she made about the Constitution and Frederick Douglass and teaching them everything she learned. What a neat project! I’m thankful for all that you teachers, administrators, and helpers are doing. I’ve been homeschooling for 8 years and discovering a program that comes alongside you to help you accomplish your goals is such a blessing.

We kept going back and forth between public and home school options. We saw the benefits to both choices and didn’t want to compromise with our kids’ education… we wanted to have our cake and eat it too! Then we found the Distance Education Program. I was finally able to stop second guessing myself and really felt good about our kids’ schooling for the first time. They offer the best of both worlds. Curriculum of my choosing for each child, a resource library full of supporting materials, an educational specialist to answer our questions and make meaningful recommendations, enriching elective courses, a chance to learn teamwork skills, have fun, and interact with peers, a chance to be home learning in our family-centered environment, a chance to move at their own pace with lessons tailored to their interests and abilities. I have complete control over what and how my children are learning and they still get to experience a peer group setting once a week where they have made friends and learned independence and confidence. Literally everything I wanted in training my children and preparing them for the future.
This is our 2nd year and I can not say enough good about the program. We love it! I love the support from staff and the teachers are so amazing. My kids count down the days between class days because all of their classes are so fun and exciting. The teachers do such a great job. Class sizes are small, everything is hands on, not a lot of paperwork, and nothing is repetive. The teachers do lots of crafts and acting out what they are learning. There are so many choices for cirriculum too so it has made teaching at home 100x’s easier and so much fun. I was new to homeschooling last year and the staff helped get us on the right track and continue to help us make things new and exciting. My kids have made more friends there then they ever did in regular school and they have so much more in common with them. All of the parents are great to talk to because we all have the same common goals for our kids. I really can’t say enough good about it. I 100% recommend it.
When I first met Kim Goates, I felt her heart and passion and just knew my children were meant to work with her. So when she started working with the Distance Education program, we followed her there! And we have been grateful for that prompting ever since! Distance Ed is a community, a family, a tie of parents who all want the same outcome for their children–something different, something better.
Many parents, including myself, have said that we may not have taken the leap to homeschool if there weren’t this wonderful balance of half home school, half charter school. Half the week, they’re with friends in classes and field trips and half the week, they’re working on curriculum and hands on learning experiences at home. It’s the best win-win I’ve ever discovered in education, and we can’t imagine our life with out it. Our children are thriving cognitively, emotionally, physically, and socially thanks to our partnership with this amazing program!
The Distance learning program has been a great blessing for our family! As a first year homeschooling mom, I have found the support from the director, education specialists, and other mothers to be so incredibly helpful! I’m not sure I could homeschool without their support. From the resource library to the filed trips and everything in between, we love the program and look forward to continuing our journey with them!
