Our multi-aged classes have a maximum of 18 students. Each class contains similar aged students.  The groupings are (youngest to oldest) Aspen, Birch, Cedar, and Oak. The themed lessons are History-based and include Stem, Social Studies, Art and Literature studies.  We focus on project-based, interactive and engaging lessons that promote critical thinking and discussion.  Science is also a part of our Epic days.  We cover the majority of the science standards needed with hands-on fun.

Epic Day Assistant

Tiffany Holmberg

Epic Day Assistant – Aspen

Denya Crockett, but you can call her Miss Denya.  Denya grew-up in Payson, Utah. She has wanted to be a teacher ever since she was a little girl.  In preschool, she remembers her mom being called by the teacher because she was not sharing in the playhouse.   They were playing school so naturally, she was the teacher!  She attended Southern Utah University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education with a specialty in Child Development.  After that, she and her husband went on adventures with the Army so she stayed home with her six kids.  Her children are almost all grown-up, so this gives her the opportunity to be back in the classroom teaching.   As Nelson Mandella said, “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.  Children are our future. Distance Ed is such a remarkable program to be part of. Parent, teacher, and child all working together.

Epic Day Assistant – Birch

Rebecca Symes was born and raised in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City. She attended Highland High School where she enjoyed the honor of being a varsity cheerleader and graduated at the end of her junior year. She immediately went on to the University of Utah. Rebecca graduated from the “U” in 2005 with her Bachelor’s Degrees in Human Development and Sociology, with an emphasis in Criminology. Rebecca volunteered to teach GED and Life Skills courses to inmates at the Salt Lake County jail for 7 years beginning while attending college. She now teaches ESL to children in China and coaches youth cheerleading after school. Rebecca is the mother of three beautiful children (Jessica, Alex, and Izzy) whom she homeschooled for 5 years, prior to joining Canyon Grove Academy in Fall 2017. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys swimming and playing tennis, hiking, yoga, ballet, coaching mini cheer, and helping with her son’s football team. She loves to be out playing and exploring with her family and their yellow Labrador, Marshall. Rebecca will take off on a road trip with her loved ones any chance she gets. Rebecca believes it is the experiences you have, relationships you build and memories you make that define your life. She is excited to create many great experiences for her students at Canyon Grove Academy.

Epic Day Assistant – Cedar

Quinlan grew up in Oregon and has lived in Utah for the past four years. She loves teaching kids and learning with them. She has received an associates degree from BYU Idaho and is still working on her bachelors in English education. She and her husband love playing sports and watching superhero movies together.

Families meet with their Educational Specialist to discuss student growth and progress. You will sign up for a monthly recurring time to meet with your ES. Please mark your calendar and be prepared for these meetings. The ES will send you a reminder email with the link to the goal form at the beginning of each month. The goal form needs to show quantifiable goals and must be completed by the 10th of each month. It is an essential communication tool and a requirement for participation in this program. You show that you value our program through having a truly effective conversation with your ES on the academic progress of your student each month. The first monthly goal form will take a little longer to fill out because it requires more details.

Thank you for scheduling time to document the progress of your student through this form each month and to effectively collaborate as your meet with your Educational Specialist.

Our students will be having so much fun at Epic Day – and sometimes fun gets energetic! We have found that proper dress and grooming positively affect the behavior of students, so we would like them to look neat and clean. We also want all toes to stay safe! Shoes must cover the entire foot and be worn in and outside the school. No Heelys are permitted. Students should not wear hats inside the school, but they can wear hats outside, so long as we can see their faces.

Morning Meeting: 9:00 am Students will be dropped off at the BACK door of the studio.  Please have students there on-time (which is between 8:45 – 9:00 am). Morning meeting is when your child’s Educational Specialist celebrates student accomplishments and recognizes birthdays. The ES will also build our culture of shared experiences by recognizing positive behavior and helping students take personal accountability for their own actions. We appreciate you bringing your student on time so they can be part of our awesome Canyon Grove DE team-building activities.

Recess: 12:00-12:20 pm Students play first and then eat so they do not rush through eating to get to their recess activities. Recess is held indoors. They can choose to play quiet games or join the larger-group, interactive fun!

Lunch: 12:20-12:40 pm Lunch is always a favorite time of the day for most students.

Home Lunch: Please send your child with a lunch from home that can be eaten within the given time frame. Also, send only water for them to drink and food that does not need to be reheated. Please let them know that they will be eating what you send with them in their OWN lunch.    There is no bartering lunch items.

Clean up: 3:00-3:15 pm

We are responsible to clean up the building from 3:00 – 3:15 pm. We all made the mess together, so we all get to clean it up together. Because of this, there is no pick up between 3:00 – 3:15, because we are all helping.   Thank you for your help with this.

Pick up: 3:15 pm

Please be there to pick up your child at 3:15. Most dance classes begin shortly after our Epic Day ends. It is important that we are all out of there on time. If there is an emergency and you will be late, please contact the ES.

Please ONLY be late if there is a true emergency.

  • Pick-up Authorization: If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up, please notify the ES before clean-up begins.  Make sure they bring ID.
  • Attendance: If your student misses an Epic Day, please email your Educational Specialist to excuse their absence.

Discovery Day: Thursday

12:00pm – 2:30pm

Discovery Day T-shirts can be purchased at the front office.  They are $5.25 each and are required for all students and volunteers attending Discovery Day activities.

Signups for Discovery Day are posted prior to each session.

Please note that bus pick up/drop-off sites are not always at the Epic day locations. The bus will leave from each pickup site at 11:20 AM and return around 3:00 PM unless otherwise stated in the sign-up. If you miss the bus you are responsible for your student’s transportation. DO NOT stop the bus if it is pulling out and you are late. If the bus is moving you have missed it and need to transport your students to the location. If they miss the bus one direction they can still ride the bus back.   More info
